The 2004 All-Star season has come to an end. Eddie made it! He made every date on the racing schedule - even the rain outs. It was a tough season, but Edde learned a lot of valuable lessons from some of the top guns in sprint car racing. Look for him to run a pick-and-choose schedule in 2005 with dates from the All-Stars, MASS, WoO, and some local dates.
Flat Out magazine article on Eddie Lynch
Eddie finished the All-Star season in 11th place in driver and owner points. Considering all the bad luck throughout the season - 11th place is not too bad. Look for a feature article on Eddie in the Dec. 2004 Flat Out magazine entitled Low Budget Road Warrior.
West Virginia (7/10) Eddie made the A-main as he was the first alternate from the B-main and one of the cars who transferred scratched for the evening. Eddie kept the car out of trouble and finished the race 15th.
Ohio Speedweek - it was a learning experience. See the results page for more information.
May 26, Wayne County speedway, Orrville, OH
I actually drew a good number tonight. I was told that is important here as the track drops off badly. I timed in at .8 off of fast time and thought that would be good enough to hit the inversion. The track didnt dry out near as bad as everyone thought and that put me 32nd in the 44 car field. The car wasnt bad for the heat and I finished where I started. Early in the B there was a 6 or 7 car pile up in front of me. Although I missed the stack of cars I found the guard rail and wiped out the front end. With much help from Robenalts crew the front end was changed and the car was fixed before they finished the race. If I hadnt been the last car hauled off the track, I probably would have been able to get back in the race. Oh well.
May 28, Attica, OH
This place continues to elude me for some reason and it seems like I get worse every time I come back. I qualified 37th. In the heat Jon Agan spun in front of me and I couldnt miss him and flipped. Once again thanks to countless people from other crews who helped change the rear end and driveline just in time to get in the C main. I led the C for a while, but the car was rapidly going away and although I made the transfer I only finished 4th. I did make a little progress in the B but not nearly enough and didnt make the feature.
May 29, KC raceway, Alma, OH
Being out of 5 off RR wheels, I borrowed a 6 off from Greg Wilson. The car was a little tight with the 6 off wheel as the track was a little rough because theyd had so much rain. I timed 30th. I missed the transfer in the heat by 2 spots. The moisture came back up the track from all the rain and I had the car too tight. I was fine once I got going, but restarts were hurting me because I wasnt going fast enough at the start to make the corner. I wound up 8th.
June 9th Belleville, IL Rain
June 10th Lake Ozark Speedway Rain
June 11th Make up for Lake Ozark Speedway Eldon, MO
The rain out last night with most teams staying at the same hotel gave me a great chance to meet a lot of the guys and just talk, which was cool. This is a brand new track and it is a nice facility. The track was greasy in hot laps so it was hard to tell what to expect for qualifying. In qualifying, it was evident that I had the wrong gear in and the motor came on way too late and I timed 21st. The car wasnt very good in the heat and had to settle for 6th. The car was very fast early on in the feature, but I had a bad starting spot with my qualifying time and wound up 15th in the feature. The groove was narrow and it was hard to pass, other wise I think I could have finished quite a bit better.
June 12th Farmington, MO Rain
June 13th Haubstat, IN
Everytime Ive ever been here, it has been really heavy. I knew they have had some rain, so I set up for that condition again. While the track was fast early on, it wasnt near as heavy as I expected and I was really loose. Still fighting a loose car I timed 25. Again the car was really loose in the heat and I was well off the pace. I went with some radical changes in the B and the car was a lot better. I moved into a transfer spot right away. Then on a restart, I just lost my calm and ran over Tom Busch taking my self out. It was a stupid move on my part, especially with me being in a transfer spot already. I restarted at the tail and came one spot from making the show.
May 22 Butler, MI After tornados in the area cancelled last night at Hartford and theyve already informed us that the race for tomorrow is cancelled because of too much rain, my only hope for the weekend was to try to get tonight in. There was plenty of bad weather in the area to make us sweat it out though. I was already pretty confident because for some reason Ive always run well on Michigan tracks. I dont know why, but I have. Things started out better as I actually didnt draw the last pill for a change. I went out halfway through the order which is the earliest this year. I hit the setup pretty good for hot laps and seemed to have a plenty fast race car. I timed eight tenths off of fast time for 22nd. So I made the inversion for the first time this year. I then won my first All Star heat race, which felt really good for as bad as Ive been struggling. I was feeling pretty good for the feature even though I knew I would be starting fairly far back because of my qualifying time. At the start of the feature I got boxed in by a couple of slower cars and lost some spots early. Once things got sorted out a little bit, I started making back spots. The car was too loose, but I still seemed to be at least as good as a lot of people. After starting 19th, I had made my way up to 13th when I tangled with another car and got spun out with only a couple laps to go. With only a few to go, I was just able to get back to 17th. I was a little disappointed in the finish position, but overall it was a decent performance for the night. Things are looking up.
May 15, Granite City, IL - Memphis had already called off both days of racing there because of rain. So I decided that I needed some more half mile practice and headed to the World of Outlaws show at Granite city. The St. Louis area had also had a lot of rain recently. This left the track very choppy and rough. Granite is usually dry slick and very smooth. I have never seen it like this and I have been coming here since I was born. As a rule, I can hot lap at Granite with out even thinking of lifting with no problem. But the conditions left the car constantly bouncing around and often out into the crumbs and I (along with quite a few others) struggled to control the cars. The car was better in qualifying, but still hopped and bounced excessively making it impossible to be very smooth. I timed 27th. I started 9th in the heat, and the grading the track crew was doing made quite a difference. My car was excessively tight and nosed over on the right front corner the whole race. Most of the race I hung with the guys in front of me until I hit the ramp (twice). The half mile there overlaps a quarter mile inside and the weekly show no longer used the half mile. This leaves the quarter mile extending itself onto the half (about half of the front straitaway). If you are too far inside, when you hit turn 4 of the quarter, the car literally jumps like off of a ramp. Needless to say, your tires are then loose and you loose A LOT of ground. This is what I am referring to the ramp. At any rate I finished that 8th or 9th. The car was getting better, so I felt fairly confident for the B. Unfortunately the track conditions made for a very narrow race track and hard to pass. I could run right with the guys in front of me, but I had to start out of a transfer spot and would need some luck to be able to make a pass. About halfway through the race, my good luck was someone elses bad luck. Brian Carlson and Mark Siciliano (both good friends of mine) were involved in a terrible accident on the front stretch. I thought I was in trouble for a minute because I ran over debris from the crash and though I would for sure get a flat tire. But luck was with me (for the first time this year)and that moved me into a transfer spot. After that I knew I was in a transfer and just kept my self out of trouble to make the feature. On the initial start of the feature I had a monster head of steam going and thought to have a good start, when a pile up occurred in the middle of the pack. Luck was with me again as I barely made it through the carnage. Everyone was able to restart. The bad part was they were all in the other row, so I was starting in the back next to several fast cars. My second start wasnt as good. I hung in as best I could, but my car was getting terrible loose and I struggled to hang on at times. I could kind of reel in the car in front of me, but couldnt muster up enough to make a pass. Shortly thereafter we were getting lapped. As narrow as the track was, I wanted to give the leaders plenty of room, so I got to the inside. This lead to one more incident with the ramp from the quarter mile. Upon this incident, the cars in front of me checked out. At that point I had little to gain (except possibly a bent race car), so I pulled off to save my stuff for another day. I would have liked to ran better and run the whole race, but sometimes when you start off bad, its hard to catch up. So I just took my start money and got the car ready for Hartford to get back to the points race!!!

4-4-04 Update
My All Star rookie season was off to a flying start as on the way,
I was pulled over for speeding and then inspected for an hour at a weigh station.
So the weekend didnt start off very good.
April 2, Paducah, KY. I didnt hot lap very well. I had a ton of rust from the offseason and the motor wasnt running right. At the time we thought it was because it was so cold out and they didnt give us but a few hot laps to get enough temperature built up in the engine. After qualifying it was evident that we had a real problem. The motor ran really bad. The frustrating part is all we needed was about another tenth of a second to make the inversion, the engine problem cost us at least half a second. At least were in the ball park. We changed the spark box and disconnected the tach for the heat race. The motor ran better, but I was starting 7th. The race started pretty good and I was hanging right with the pack. About 3 laps in, Danny Smith crossed up in front of me and I drove by him on the outside into a transfer spot!! BUT then the caution flew giving him his spot back. About a lap later one of my contact lenses came out giving me fits seeing where I was going. I started 6th in the B. I had a real good start and moved into a transfer spot going into 3 on the first lap. Unfortunately the red came out. On the second start, I had an appropriately timed nudge from the person on the inside of me leaving me with a really bad start. I lost 2 spots before getting to turn 1. We didnt have the car as good as earlier in the night and I wasnt able to make the transfer.
April 3, Farmington, MO. Farmington is like a home track for me. Ive always run good here, although I was concerned about what running an open tire would do to my set ups as compared to the spec tire we usually run there. 46 cars in the pits with some really good cars (with no where running against us) meant it was going to be a tough night. I drew number 63 making me one of the last cars to go out for qualifying. We had the car way too loose, but we still only managed to be a second off of fast time. That landed me 33rd. The car was decent in the heat race, but not good enough to pass a lot of cars. We made a lot of changes to the car for the B. The car was much better for the B and I started passing cars immediately. I had already moved up about 4 spots and I tried to dive under a car that I thought was going high. When he dove back to the bottom, I hit the brakes to avoid taking us both out. At that point I lost it and spun and would have to restart at the tail. From there on I was on a mission and came from 20th to 11th in the last 8 laps by just basically driving where I didnt see a car.
Although I was a little frustrated not making the shows close to home, I did have some good setups over the weekend to help me down the road. I think that if I had not had bad luck we would have been in both features, which is encouraging considering the level of competition this weekend with no tracks running against us. So I think weve shown some real potential for this season despite the outcome, and weve got about 65 more races to prove it!!!
